Expeditions

All boys in the Lower School (Years 9-11) attend two weekend expeditions during the school year - one in the Autumn and the other in the Summer. These expeditions encourage those pupils used to city life to experience environments beyond their familiar territory.

Activities

Expeditions are led by members of staff and involve such activities as hill-walking, camping, cycling, sailing and visits to outdoor activity centres in Great Britain and on the continent.

Voluntary adventure camps in Scotland and elsewhere are arranged in the Easter and Summer holidays. Interest in such pursuits is maintained in the Upper School (Years 12-13) through the Expeditions Society that organises activities such as caving and parachuting during term time.

Overseas

Major overseas expeditions are also arranged to, for example, Baffin Island, Arctic Norway, Alaska, the Alps, the Rocky Mountains, South Africa, Morocco and the Himalayas.

School house

The School house is based in Leadgate, near Alston in Cumbria. Lower School boys (Years 9-11) and other groups visit during term time and the holidays for a range of expeditions, field trips, study courses and reading weekends.
