Scholarships and bursaries
For 16+ pupils
16+ Bursaries
A number of means-tested bursaries up to 100% of the fees are available.
Please note that a candidates requiring a visa to study in the UK must be able to demonstrate to the UK
Border Agency that his or her parents have sufficient funds to cover the cost of one year's tuition and
living expenses.
For 13+ boys
Queen’s Scholarships
- Eight Queen’s Scholarships are awarded each year.
- Candidates for the scholarships must take The Challenge (scholarship
examination) in the May preceding their entry to the School.
- Queen’s Scholars are required to board in College.
- The recipient of a Queen’s Scholarship pays half the current
boarding fee. If required, a further bursary covering payment towards
the full fee is available on a means-tested basis.
- Candidates who reach the standard of a Queen’s Scholarship but
are not prepared to board are awarded an Honorary Scholarship.
- Five exhibitions (minor scholarships) are awarded to those who come
close to scholarship standard.
Music Scholarships
- Six music scholarships of 25% of the current boarding or day fee, including free
tuition on two instruments, are available annually.
- Additional bursaries of up to 100% of the fees are available in cases of financial need.
- Auditions are held each January or February.
- Candidates should offer two instruments and will be expected to demonstrate
general musicianship and potential for development.
- Before the scholarship auditions candidates can seek advice from the Director of
Music and have an informal audition. Contact the Music Secretary on 020 7963 1017.
- Candidates must subsequently qualify academically for admission through the Challenge
(scholarship examination) or the Common Entrance examination.
13+ Bursaries

For 11+ boys
11+ Bursaries
A number of means-tested bursaries up to 100% of the fees are available.
Boys who are awarded bursaries at 11+ spend two years at our Under School and then
move automatically into Westminster School at the start of Year 9.
