16+ Entry


  • Entry to the sixth form is open to boys and girls.
  • Sixth formers study A-levels and Pre-Us after passing their GCSEs.
  • Some means-tested bursaries are available.

Year before entry to the sixth form

  • Jun: registration opens online. From June onwards, both the Prospectus and Sixth Form Courses booklet are available to UK candidates by post on request (please email registrar@westminster.org.uk) or as downloads in the Sixth Form Entry Application Website, and as downloads only for overseas candidates. The courses booklet contains comprehensive information on the admissions procedure together with detailed course information and a brief explanation of the entrance examination for each subject.
  • Sep/Oct: Open days organised: A chance to meet teachers and visit the School.
  • Oct: Registration closes - deadline second Wednesday in October.
  • Nov: Prospective sixth formers interviewed and take entry exam.
  • Dec: Prospective sixth formers notified of places.

Year of entry to the sixth form

  • May/Jun: GCSEs taken.
  • Aug: GCSE results: Candidates must obtain at least six GCSEs (including five ‘A Grades’ and one ‘B Grade’)
  • Sep: Pupil starts sixth-form studies.

13+ Entry


Registration remains open until the end of Year 6 but we recommend that boys should be registered by the end of Year 5. There are no Open Days for 13+ entry but tours of the School take place several times a week.

Two to three years before entry to Westminster (while a boy is in Year 6)

  • Each candidate sits pre-interview tests in Mathematics, English and Reasoning.
  • Candidates are interviewed and a reference is sought.
  • Conditional places at thirteen are offered.

The term before entry to Westminster:

  • May/Jun: Candidates with conditional places take the Common Entrance exam or The Challenge (scholarship examination). Candidates that meet the required standard are notified. About 120 boys are admitted each year into six forms.
  • Sep: Candidates start their studies at Westminster.


11+ Entry


  • Aimed principally at boys from State and Indepedent Primary Schools which transfer at the end of Year 6. Pupils enter Westminster Under School at 11 years old. After two years at the Under School they progress to Westminster.
  • Bursaries are available.

Eleven months before entry to the Under School

Tours of the Under School and Westminster School are organised by the Under School.

Nine months before entry to the Under School

  • Jan: Year 7 candidates take a competitive 11+ entry exam.

Registration and entry is administered via the Under School.


7/8+ Entry


  • Boys can enter Westminster via the Under School at 7 or 8 years old.
  • Registration and entry is administered via the Under School.
