Pastoral CareThe welfare of pupils is centred on the House, and is the chief concern of Housemasters and House Tutors. In each Boarding House there is a matron who plays a key role. If concerns about a pupil’s academic progress or well-being are expressed by parent, teacher or pupil, the School responds as quickly as possible. The Housemaster and Tutor will consult all those involved and propose a course of action. This process of consultation takes place rapidly and easily. TutorsEach pupil is allocated a Tutor. They meet each other at least once a week, normally at lunchtime on Mondays. A Tutor is a friend and advisor. Discussions in groups or individually take place on, for example:
BullyingPupils know that bullying is unacceptable at Westminster. If and when it does occur it is dealt with on an individual basis along lines defined in a written policy given to and discussed with pupils and parents. Rules and policiesWestminster has clear and explicit rules about alcohol, smoking and drugs. That said, the School aim is to keep the channels of communication open between pupils and teachers so that we can both educate pupils through the PSE programme and also assist pupils who have difficulties. CounsellingThe School offers a counselling service with a professional counsellor who can be contacted independently and confidentially by any pupil or parent. There is also a very successful scheme for pupils to be trained as ‘Peer Supporters’ to offer help to other pupils.
