The Houses

Westminster is based on a house system and every pupil belongs to a house which, whether boarding or day, has study and leisure space, changing rooms and lockers. There are 11 houses, six of which have boarders. Purcell's, the girls-only boarding house, is the only house with no day pupils. All houses have some Sixth Form girls.

Housemasters

The housemasters form the strongest link between school and home. Any concerns that parents have should be raised initially with their child's housemaster. Housemasters' responsibilities range from UCAS references and subject choices to the more mundane matters of punctuality and dress. It is usually the pupil's housemaster who is informed first if anyone is concerned about his or her welfare.

Tutors

Within the house system each pupil is allocated a Tutor. Tutors meet their pupils every Wednesday morning, but they also meet up with them informally over lunch, before school, at break times etc. They get to know their pupils well and play a key role in the school's pastoral system. Supporting the housemaster, tutors keep an eye on academic progress and offer advice about subject choices and university applications.
