The Houses

Westminster is based on a House system and every pupil belongs to a House which, whether boarding or day, has study and leisure space, changing rooms and lockers.

Each of the 11 Houses has a Housemaster and they form the strongest link between parents and the School. All Houses have some sixth-form girls. Of the six boarding Houses, College and Purcell’s are the only Houses without day pupils. There is no real distinction between boarders and day pupils and they play an equal part in the life of the School.

Tutors

Within the House system each pupil is allocated a Tutor. Tutors meet their pupils regularly. In consultation with Housemasters, they offer advice about:

  • academic progress,
  • the choice of GCSE subjects beyond the core curriculum,
  • A Level and AS Level subjects to pupils in Year 11 (The Upper Shell).
  • applying to university to sixth formers considering their options.
