Online applications can be submitted from two years before the proposed date of entry.

Open Mornings

Open Mornings take place every year in the Autumn Term, allowing prospective parents and pupils to get a feel for the School environment and meet current pupils and staff.

Final registration point

At the latest, boys must be registered by the week before October half-term in the year before their intended September entry. Our online registration will always have the actual deadline clearly stated.

Entrance assessments

All boys take entrance assessments in English, Maths and Reasoning to determine their suitability for entry into the School. We aim to make the assessment day an informal and friendly occasion. The papers are not designed to trip the boys up but to better understand their abilities and potential.

Additional assessments

Later in January or early February selected boys are invited to return to the school to take additional assessments and to have an informal interview with a senior member of staff.

Offers sent

Offers of a place are sent to the parents of successful boys.

Admission to the School

Boys join the school at the beginning of September.

Open Days and 13+ Tours

Open Days and 13+ Tours take place when the boys are in Year 5 allowing prospective parents and pupils to get a feel for the school environment and to meet current pupils and staff.

Final registration point

Although boys can be registered for 13+ entry at any point from birth, we require registration forms to be received three years before the proposed date of entry. At the latest, boys must be registered for 13+ entry by the end of Year 5 (the academic year of their 10th birthday).

ISEB Common Pre-Tests

Boys will take the Independent Schools Examinations Board (ISEB) Common Pre-Tests at their prep schools, testing them in English, Maths and Reasoning. Westminster then requests the results of those tests in addition to a reference from a boy’s current head teacher.

Interviews

Boys who have performed strongly in the tests and who have received a satisfactory reference are invited to Westminster for an interview, which will include short tests in English and Maths.

Offer letters

After the interviews, parents will receive a letter either offering their child a conditional place at the School (an offer to place the child’s name on a waiting list for conditional places) or a letter explaining that the child’s application will not be taken forward.

Entrance examinations

A boy with a conditional place must sit our entrance exams in order to secure it. There is a choice of two sets of papers, The Challenge, our Scholarship Examinations or Common Entrance involving Maths, English, French, Science, Latin, History and Geography.
