History in the Making!
Congratulations to Emily, Maia, Alexander and Izzie (pictured left to right), who have all successfully auditioned to sing in their respective college choirs at university, subject to meeting the terms of their academic offers. Emily and Maia will be singing at Oxford’s New College and Merton College respectively, whilst Alexander and Izzie have won places in the Cambridge choirs of King’s and Queens’ respectively.
Of particular interest is Emily’s choral award as an alto in the Choir of New College, Oxford. New College was founded in 1379 by William of Wykeham, bishop of Winchester. The provision of religious services, chaplains and choristers was central to Wykeham’s educational scheme; the Choir and Choir School persist to this day. Emily is set to become the first female choral scholar in the College’s history!
