An Election Term Sports Report

Wednesday’s fixture was a very fitting occasion for both sets of players, as Ebbsfleet United FC Academy visited Vincent Square almost 2 years ago, with a crop of players who were just starting their 2-year football / education placement. 2 years later, it was very fitting that their last football fixture should against Westminster School, with the opposite significance as our Upper Shell group will be starting their final 2 years within senior football in September.

A great atmosphere and match were played in very competitive, but good spirits with Westminster School including a few guests from the Ebbsfleet United team, to balance the squads and keep it a meaningful match, and this was very much the case.

Westminster School displaying a real determination to show their opponents that we are more than worthy of sharing a football pitch with, demonstrating the talent and work ethic of a well-balanced side who can be positive in possession and very difficult to play against without the ball. after the first 30-minute period, Westminster went in with a 1-0 lead, with both teams playing some good football but some good chances going missing.

the second and third periods were end to end, with both teams having spells controlling the game and enjoying most of the ball, but what did not falter was the organisation and determination from the Westminster back-line, with Kaled Haram & Melchior Walewski both being rocks at the heart of defence and putting their bodies on the line, this helped preserve a clean sheet for Westminster School and lead them to a brilliant 1-0 victory.

Credit to Ebbsfleet United FC Academy for a great game and their part in a great day all round for everyone involved.
