Westminster Under School is a friendly and welcoming place to work, with a real sense of community. Staff members quickly become part of the rhythm of life, both inside and outside the classroom. Social events are regular and varied, with plenty of opportunity to socialise outside working hours. Staff are encouraged to embrace the School’s day-to-day activities, whether that be attending a concert or a sports fixture.

It is a particularly exciting and significant time to be joining Westminster. As part of Westminster Under School and Westminster School’s move to become fully co-educational, girls will be joining the Under School for the first time in 2026, at the 7+ and 11+ entry points, and a brand new pre-prep will open for boys and girls at the 4+ entry point. In 2028, girls will be joining at 13+ at Westminster School.

The role
The Under School is looking for a bright and enthusiastic Junior Class Teacher who can lead Maths across the Lower School, from Reception to Year 4. The role has been created as part of the Under School’s expansion, as the School prepares to welcome girls from September 2026 and a larger 7+ cohort, making it a rare opportunity to help shape the next chapter of the Junior Department. The new Head of Lower School Maths will have a significant impact on the curriculum development of our new age groups and expanded cohorts. They will inspire others with their commitment to fostering a high standard of academics and a love of mathematics.

The postholder will be part of a friendly team consisting of three Year 3 classes and two Year 4 classes (growing to three Year 4 classes in 2027), each with 20 pupils. The Junior Class Teacher and Head of Lower School English will teach a broad range of core subjects including English, Maths, History, Geography, Science, Theology, Philosophy and Religion (TPR), and PSHEE.

The successful applicant will have a strong academic background and will hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent. They will have a teaching qualification and will demonstrate evidence of continued professional development. Experience of teaching in the state or private sector is integral to this role, as is an in-depth subject knowledge of English and phonics for Reception to Year 4. The postholder will be confident, caring and helpful, with excellent interpersonal communication and management skills, and the ability to motivate both pupils and staff members.
