Westminster School is a busy and vibrant place to work. There is a real sense of community here as, being a boarding school, many members of staff and pupils live on site and the School’s premises are very much treated as a home away from home. Staff are encouraged to embrace the School’s day-to-day activities, whether that be attending an evening concert or a morning service in the Abbey.
Geography at Westminster offers pupils the opportunity to develop geographical intelligence and foster a curiosity about the world around them and their place within it, providing a rigorous intellectual framework in which to explore aspects of their environments. There is a very strong emphasis on the enjoyment and appreciation of the subject in the context of global issues and progress. Fieldtrips are essential to the subject and core parts of the curriculum for GCSE and A Level, with all teachers taking part in running them.
The role
We are looking for a well-qualified Geography teacher who will be able to teach throughout the School at all ages and ability levels. Aside from planning, teaching and evaluating lessons, the successful candidate will be expected to carry out a range of formative assessments of pupils’ attainment to acknowledge and inform progress. They will be required to attend staff meetings, parents’ evenings and school events, outside normal hours, and accompany relevant school trips, normally including one residential visit per year. They will also take the role of Form Tutor or Form Support Tutor within a year group.
The ideal applicant will be an excellent communicator who is able to teach thoughtful and engaging Geography lessons, and who can inspire pupils through a genuine love for the subject. They will have a knowledge of safeguarding and a good awareness of recent trends in curriculum content, aims, objectives and assessment. A bachelor’s degree in Geography or an equivalent subject and an enthusiasm for teaching are essential.
This role can be part-time or full-time and will run for one year only, from January 2026, as maternity cover.
