Westminster School is a busy and vibrant place to work. There is a real sense of community here as, being a boarding school, many members of staff and pupils live on site and the School’s premises are very much treated as a home away from home. Support staff as much as teaching staff are encouraged to embrace the School’s day-to-day activities, whether that be attending an evening concert or a morning service in the Abbey.
This is a particularly exciting and significant time to be joining Westminster, as the School moves to become fully co-educational. In 2028, girls will join Westminster School for the first time at 13+, joining the community of girls at 16+. Girls will join the Under School for the first time in 2026 at the 7+ and 11+ entry points, and a brand-new pre-prep will open for boys and girls at the 4+ entry point.
The role
Westminster School is looking for an Office Assistant to provide effective secretarial and administrative support to the Executive Assistant to the Head Master. The postholder will be the secondary point of contact for all things in the Head Master’s Office, responding to emails and telephone calls, and greeting members of the school community in person. They will be primarily responsible for the organisation of teacher cover, and also provide significant support to the Registration Team in ascertaining pupil whereabouts, in line with safeguarding protocols. They will also help organise Head Master’s events and dinners, pupil awards, and reference requests from former pupils, undertaking other ad hoc duties as and when required. The office ethos is supportive and relaxed but a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality is expected, alongside the ability to work to deadlines and to act appropriately under pressure.
Excellent organisational and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to effectively plan and prioritise workload. The ideal candidate will be educated to A Level or equivalent and will demonstrate a calm, professional manner. They should have experience working within an administrative or office environment. The postholder will be skilled at building positive and productive working relationships and will be able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
The Head Master’s Office Assistant is a full-time, term-time only role, with a salary of £26,982.98 (actual) based on a full-time equivalent of £35,000 per annum. For this role, there is no fixed closing date. Applications will be considered on receipt, and interviews may occur at any stage.
