Seven talks on the theme Frisson, covered areas as diverse as the emotions that spark protest, the experience of homelessness, and the power to change lives by changing faces, as Westminster hosted its first TEDx Youth event
Imagined and organised by Remove pupil Rivika (AHH), the event brought to the stage speakers from the worlds of education, medicine, charities, and ethical retail to offer their interpretation of the French term ‘Frisson’, signifying a sudden thrill of excitement or fear, in relation to their own experiences and ideas.
Among them were former Head Master, Patrick Derham, and Rivika’s collaborator for the initiative, Teacher of English at Westminster, Harry Petty.
All seven talks are now hosted on the TEDx YouTube channel, and available to watch below.
Rivika said: “Putting on TEDx Westminster School was an incredibly rewarding process. I hugely enjoyed myself over the year; working with speakers to finetune talks, organising the event in frantic emails and meetings, and getting to introduce all the incredible speakers made the experience so memorable. I’ve learnt so much throughout the past year from mentors like Mr Petty, and from the speakers themselves who were beyond inspirational. I’m so grateful to all the staff and to my friends for their immense support throughout the process!”
Harry added: “It was a genuine joy to see Rivika’s vision come to life. Achieving this in such a demanding year is a tremendous accomplishment, and it was a privilege to support her throughout the journey. We are deeply grateful to all the speakers; it’s rare to have such a diverse range of ideas share the same stage, and we cannot thank them enough. Their words truly enriched the audience: pupils from both Westminster and our partner schools.”
