Westminster School is a busy and vibrant place to work. There is a real sense of community here as, being a boarding school, many members of staff and pupils live on site and the School’s premises are very much treated as a home away from home. Support staff as much as teaching staff are encouraged to embrace the School’s day-to-day activities, whether that be attending an evening concert or a morning service in the Abbey.

The Library is at the heart of the School, with views over Little Dean’s Yard. It provides a calm, comfortable, welcoming, and information-rich environment for study and reading for pleasure, and is used by pupils and members of staff alike.

The role
We are looking for an organised and methodical Graduate Trainee Librarian, to join and support our Librarians. They will assist in the daily running of the Library, including, but not limited to: issuing, renewing, and returning library items; helping pupils and staff with inquiries; processing new stock; shelving; maintaining orderly shelves; and designing engaging displays and signage both in the Library and throughout the School. They will also taking primary responsibility for the Issue Desk at the start of each day and help supervise pupils in the Library.

The ideal applicant will be an excellent communicator with strong problem-solving and organisational skills, and an ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team. They will be adaptable, enthusiastic and efficient, and will enjoy talking to and helping pupils and staff with requests. A bachelor’s degree, love for literature and reading, and strong IT skills are essential, as is a commitment to professional development. Creativity would be advantageous, as the role will involve creating quality displays, writing newsletters and posting on social media. Prior experience working in a library is not essential as training will be given.

This role is designed to help equip the post holder to apply for or complete a recognised postgraduate qualification in Library and Information Sciences course or a similar sector. It is a full-time and term-time only position with a salary £22,542.48 (actual) based on an FTE of £27,963 per annum. Some Saturday working is required.
