School Life at the Under School

Under School Crest

At Westminster Under School, we aim to prepare children to lead happy, generous and fulfilled lives. We support them in developing strong, compassionate character, grounded in empathy for others.

The School’s excellent system of pastoral care ensures that pupils, their families, and staff members are well connected and each individual is looked after, helping them to enjoy and get the most from all that the School has to offer.

A Supportive Community

School life is shaped by a house system that gives every pupil a clear sense of identity and belonging. Running across all year groups, houses allow staff to observe pupils as they grow both in and beyond the classroom, offering consistent guidance and encouragement throughout their time at the School. Houses are a rich source of friendship and peer support. Each child is seen, championed and cared for, helping them feel at home and able to flourish.

Enthusiasm for the Extra-Curricular

Pupils are given the freedom and opportunity to explore new interests, develop skills and pursue areas of curiosity. Independent thinking and exploration are encouraged across the School, creating a vibrant environment that is busy, purposeful and full of energy. Lunchtimes often feature talks, workshops or clubs, while after‑school hours are brought to life by rehearsals, concerts and plays.

A Happy and Healthy Environment

You only need to look as far as the lunch hall to see smiling faces. Pupils rush to sit with their friends over lunch and talk about their day, often enjoying themed lunches that celebrate cultural festivals. On other days, the School comes together to mark occasions such as World Book Day or Jeans for Genes. Everyone is involved. Pupils experience great enjoyment in belonging to a community that appreciates their intelligent and enquiring natures, revels in similarities but also in differences, and seeks to nurture personal interests, whatever they may be. At Westminster Under School, having an interest in Pi and Pythagoras is just as valued as an interest in Messi, Russo, Ronaldo, or Bonmati.

A Central Location

The School’s playing fields at Vincent Square provide children with the space to play and take part in sport in the very heart of London. The School’s proximity to many of the city’s attractions and landmarks also means that pupils frequently enjoy educational trips to museums, art galleries and similar venues.
