Co-Curricular Life

Great School Crest

Co‑curricular life at Westminster is designed to broaden pupils’ knowledge and interests, develop their talents and encourage them to take intellectual risks beyond what they believe possible, while supporting a healthy and well‑rounded lifestyle.

The School offers a rich variety of activities that sit alongside the academic curriculum, giving pupils opportunities to meet new people and gain experiences that shape them both intellectually and personally. Some activities are open to the whole School, providing an excellent way for pupils of all ages and interests to learn and contribute together; others are specific to particular year groups, ensuring age‑appropriate opportunities across a range of ability levels.

At lunchtime and after school, thought‑provoking lectures and talks are weekly fixtures, whether in the form of a pupil‑led society or a year‑group event featuring a well‑known speaker. Plays, concerts and exhibitions run frequently throughout the year, offering pupils the chance to be part of a collective endeavour, either in one of the School’s many performance spaces or at external venues such as Smith Square Hall or the Royal Festival Hall.

Pupils across all year groups also have timetabled co‑curricular commitments, woven into the week around lessons and designed to complement their academic studies. Trips and exchanges, in the UK and overseas, further enrich school life, with expeditions featuring prominently throughout the year.

  • "I really appreciate the vast breadth of incredible opportunities that are offered to students so that they can pursue their passions and interests. We are able to hear from world-class speakers, perform music in some of the world’s greatest venues (the Barbican, Smith Square Hall, Royal Festival Hall - to name a few), and so much else."

    — Matt, Year 9 pupil

  • "What I love most about Westminster is its energy, not just in the classroom but outside of it too. In a given week I might have volunteered at a local primary school, gone to a West End play, participated in Model UN, attended a lunchtime talk, and run in an inter-house race. The diverse opportunities on offer might be summed up by my personal highlights since joining last year: running around the ancient Nemea Stadium on the Classics trip to Greece and playing at the Bolton Wanderers Stadium on the U15 Football Tour. "
