School Life

Life at Westminster is full of rhythm and variety. Pupils move between lessons, rehearsals, talks, house events and sport with energy and achieve a great deal. Days are full and stimulating, often beginning with a service in Westminster Abbey or Latin Prayers in the School’s Chapel and ending with a house pizza night, talk or concert. The School is a busy and sociable place to be whatever the time of day.

The School’s central London location gives pupils access to world class institutions, museums and galleries, while its historic centre and courtyard in Little Dean’s Yard provide a sense of belonging and a little tranquillity amid the business of the capital. The School’s campus extends into the surrounding streets and to the sports centre and sports ground at Vincent Square, allowing pupils to feel independent and empowered, preparing them for life beyond school.

Our co-educational community is strengthened by the boys and girls who board with us, living within the school grounds and contributing to the identity of Westminster. For many, the School becomes a home away from home. Day pupils often choose to stay onsite into the evening, to have dinner with friends, study in their house or the Library, and take part in, or support their peers at, school events.

Life in the Sixth Form

Every year about 200 pupils join Westminster’s thriving Year 12 Sixth Form. Most move up from Year 11, with a further 75 to 85 joining from other schools. The sixth form, which now represents more than half the School, has been co-educational for over 50 years now.

Pupils in Years 12 and 13 are often the ones running events and leading societies; Year 13 pupils take positions of responsibility as Heads of School, monitors and peer supporters. The community is tight-knit and supportive, Sixth Formers team up for charity fundraisers, take on challenging competitions together, and show up for each other’s exhibitions, plays and concerts. Little Dean’s Yard, the heart of the School, is always alive with their chatter.

A real enthusiasm for getting involved defines the sixth form; pupils are keen to follow their ambitions and have fun in the process. And it shapes the School’s identity – being proactive, sharing interests and achieving great things is all part of Westminster’s culture.

Alongside academic and cultural pursuits, we place strong emphasis on pupils’ moral, emotional and physical wellbeing. This balance is central to daily life at Westminster. Pupils are supported as they develop resilience, self knowledge and a sense of responsibility. Our system of pastoral care reinforces this. Staff, pupils and families are closely connected, and there is a shared commitment to supporting one another. Each child is known, encouraged and cared for, ensuring that Westminster feels like a home as well as a school.
